3 Need to Know Tips for Choosing Candle Fragrances
Share
Probably one of the most exciting parts of candle making is choosing your fragrances. With thousands of scents to choose from and dozens of wholesalers to try, picking your fragrance oils can quickly become overwhelming. Especially for those who are just starting out.
I am here to help you along on your journey to candle making greatness. Below are my top three tips to consider when choosing fragrances for your candle line. These tips were created to help you make the process more enjoyable and a lot less stressful.
Tip 1: Try Before You Buy
Every wholesale company carries strong and light fragrances. What is unfortunate is that each oil can, and typically will, react differently in each wax you are using. Wholesale Candle Supply companies offer deals for purchasing larger quantities of oil but committing to a large quantity prior to testing it in your wax is a big gamble that rarely pays off. Purchase sample bottles of fragrance oil that interest you and test it in your wax prior to committing to a larger purchase. This will save you money in the long run and help narrow down the oils and companies you will want to work with.
Tip 2: Don’t Put All Your Oils in One Basket
Once you have narrowed down fragrance oils that work well in your wax, choose a few companies to purchase from regularly. Purchasing from multiple wholesale companies will have you paying out of your you-know-what in shipping fees, but choosing only one wholesale company to get your products from can also leave you in hot water if the company chooses to close their doors. By purchasing from at least two wholesale suppliers, you can rest assured that you will not have to completely start from scratch and retest all of your candles.
Tip 3: No Two Fragrance Oils Are Made the Same
So, remember in the beginning when I stated that every wholesale company carries fragrance oils that can be both strong and light? This definitely comes into effect more when testing an oil from different companies, with the same name, and different fragrance notes. Reputable companies such as Yankee Candle, Bath and Body Works, Goose Creek, Victoria Secret, and White Barn have popular selling candles, lotions, and body sprays that candle makers love to duplicate because they sell well.
Wholesale candle suppliers will duplicate these fragrances and sell the oil so that makers can use and sell them in their small business. Some duplicates are closer to the original fragrance than others, and some will work well in your chosen wax while others will not. Just because one oil does not carry well in your product, it does not mean that another company’s oil will also be a dud.
This is another great reason why you should purchase a small amount of oil for testing and try multiple wholesalers prior to committing to larger purchases. Even if you find a fragrance that works well, you may have better results with another company’s dupe.
Not every fragrance oil is going to be a winner. But through careful testing you will find a company that supplies a wide selection of oils that are compatible with your jar, wick, and wax combos.
Rushing through the testing process will leave you with less than desirable results. So take your time to explore all the amazing fragrances wholesale companies have to offer.
